DOLLY
Formally known as Flopsy and Mopsy, the original plan for these two donkey jennies was simple: on April 22 2022, they would hitch a ride to Zuma’s alongside minis Jerry, Elaine, and Kramer from a Montana livestock auction to their new home in Colorado.
Along the way, Zuma’s learned that the intended role for the donkeys at their new home was as broodmares. After being offered the opportunity to purchase them, Zuma’s reached out to our community with an emergency rescue alert: raise $2,100 in 48 hours and the donkeys could stay here.
The community answered the call and blew us away. The rescue fee was raised in minutes and the donations just kept coming, securing the donkeys’ sanctuary at Zuma’s! It’s thanks to our amazing rescue community of volunteers, donors, sponsors, and staff that these souls are here to stay.
Recognizable by a lighter coat, dark dorsal stripe, and striping down her legs, Dolly is the more in-charge and (sometimes) the more outgoing of the two donkeys. She is very curious and will come check out visitors to her fence (especially to investigate for treats).
