Riding Programs at Zuma’s

At Zuma’s, not all lessons are mounted.

Zuma’s Equine Education programs are far more than learning how to ride a horse. To be an effective rider, you must first understand how the horses think, feel, and process stimuli.

We offer many ways to connect with the amazing herd members that reside here. From horseback riding lessons to equine-assisted learning and holistic workshops, there’s something for everyone at every skill level.

First Time Riding at Zuma’s?
Start Here.

All new riders at Zuma’s begin gaining their riding journey with a Horsemanship 101 class followed by a required Rider Evaluation.

During the Rider Evaluation, our skilled instructors will assess your current skillset, help to fit your tack, and match the proper horse to meet your riding goals!

Not ready for riding just yet, or are you interested in liberty work from the ground?
We offer
groundwork classes that help you communicate and connect with your equine partner.

Additional Equine Education Programs

If you’re looking to expand your horse knowledge, Zuma’s offers a wide array of equine education classes.

Equine Conformation & Movement
Spend some time in the classroom learning about the horse's anatomy, conformation, and movement followed by identifying the horse's individual conformation in the field. This class helps you understand how horses move, what muscles move what body parts, and how conformation can affect movement. You will become a much better rider by understanding the horse's body. This class is required of all our riding students within 60 days of their first lesson.

Equine Herbs
Learn all about the herbal remedies Zuma’s uses to keep the herd healthy. Many of the herbs we use for the herd would work for what ails you as well! Pain, inflammation, heart disease, ulcers, arthritis, migraines and more.

Holistic Healing for Horses
Interested in learning how to identify and help your horses with restrictions in their body?

Learn the basics of massage, craniosacral therapy, and kinesiology taping. We will teach you how to identify short steps and restricted movements, and how to help the horse relieve those restrictions.

Walk A Horse Lesson
This class is designed to teach you basic haltering and leading skills so you are able to take your herd members for walks safely and comfortably. This class does not replace the Horsemanship 101 course, it is simply another opportunity to practice your skills.

Learn to Colt Start
Work with our trainers to train the horses! From colts to new rescues, to rehabilitation training.

Intro to Liberty With Horses
Want to learn to speak horse? Move them around on the ground over obstacles, playing with a giant ball, and more. Clicker training is reward-based training; think canine agility but with horses.

This is a fun Friday night group to meet like-minded horse lovers and have a great time. Join us in the warmer months for BYOB Happy Hour after class!

Ground Driving Lesson
Learn to work horses with driving lines on the ground. It's a great way to develop a connection with your horse and get your and your horses’ blood pumping.
