LILY

Our resident sheep Lily has one of the more traumatic backstories that we have ever seen.

Quite literally born on the floor of the slaughter house and scooped up illegally by an employee, Lily was snuck out of the plant with the hopes of saving her life. After a bit of time raising her, this employee brought her to Zuma’s for sanctuary.

Lily is very slow to trust humans, and has spent the last several years avoiding any contact with them that she can. Her immediate response and need to distance herself from us shows just how deep her traumas lie, and we do our very best to respect her in every way possible. When visiting in the goat yard, speak to her in kind, calm tone while respecting her personal space bubble.

You can frequently hear her yelling during feed times if the staff is “too slow” to get to her paddock!
